Custom Ash Dining Table and Bench Auckland
A dining table and bench work best when they feel like one set, not two pieces bought at different times. In this project, the ash surfaces share the same warm grain while the dark rectangular bases establish a clear, consistent structure underneath.
The result is generous but visually open. The long tabletop provides the main surface; the matching bench tucks alongside without adding a row of chair backs.
Ash timber with a simple base
Ash gives the table a light, legible grain that reads well across a broad top. The design keeps that surface uncluttered. Below it, black rectangular supports create contrast and frame the open space rather than filling it.
The bench repeats the same language at a smaller scale. That repetition is useful in an open dining area because the furniture looks organised from both the room and the end of the table.

Why a dining bench can work well
A bench can provide flexible seating and slide partly beneath the tabletop when not in use. It also keeps sightlines lower, which helps a timber dining table remain the dominant feature.
The five installed photographs show the set from several sides. You can see the top thickness, base position and relationship between table and bench rather than relying on a single front view.
Commissioning a custom dining set
Room size, circulation and usual seating numbers should guide a custom table. For a matching bench, it is also worth considering where it will sit, how often it moves and whether chairs are required on the other sides.
